I Live My Life on Gratitude
I genuinely do.
I see every situation as an opportunity to be grateful.
Growing up wasn’t easy. Not because we were extremely poor, but because my dad was a strict disciplinarian. He didn’t believe his children should have everything in abundance.
Back then, I resented him for it.
Today, I understand him.
Those hard days built resilience. They built perspective. They built discipline. They taught me how to survive any situation.
And for that, I am grateful.
Gratitude Is My Default Setting
If I wake up healthy, and my family and friends are alive, I am filled with gratitude.
I keep life simple.
Maybe it’s how I was wired. Maybe it’s how I was raised. But I don’t want too much.
Good food.
Light in my house.
Decent clothes.
Work that gives me purpose.
That’s enough.
I don’t need the best car.
I don’t need the biggest house.
I don’t need designer everything.
I am grateful for what I have now.
Loss Changed Me
I lost my mum in June last year.
I wish she were still here.
But even in that pain, I choose gratitude.
I am grateful I had her.
I am grateful she saw me become someone.
I am grateful for the time we shared.
Life is fragile.
What if I came into this world as a tree?
The fact that I am here, breathing, thinking, building — that alone is a gift.
If I Lose Everything Tomorrow
If tomorrow I lose everything I own, I won’t drink myself into depression.
I won’t blame the world.
I will be grateful that I had it.
And I will be grateful for the opportunity to start again.
Because starting again is still a privilege.
Stop Complaining
Stop complaining about the government every day.
Stop complaining about your family.
Stop complaining about your boss.
Have you ever tried to see things from their perspective?
Have you asked what they are dealing with?
Have you asked what you can do to improve the situation instead of just reacting to it?
Gratitude does not mean complacency.
You can be grateful and still be ambitious.
You can be thankful and still want more.
But constant complaining drains energy.
Empathy builds strength.
Know Yourself
One thing that has helped me is self-awareness.
I know my strengths.
I know my weaknesses.
I understand my wiring.
When dealing with people, I try to think about what they want, what they need, what they stand to gain.
Don’t be selfish.
Empathy is power.
This is just my two cents.
Choose gratitude.
It changes everything.
