Focus on Your Game

If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is this:

Do not get caught up in other people’s opinions.

I cannot afford to measure my life against what my friends have, what my boss is doing, or what my brother calls “success.” Envy is a silent killer. Once you let go of everything outside your control, you can finally focus on your own game.

And that is when you start to win.

You may think I am overrated. You may think I am one of the better entrepreneurs of my generation. It does not matter.

What has guided every interaction in my life comes down to four principles:

Humility.
Hard work.
Patience.
Kindness.

Kindness

I lead with empathy.

In business and in life, I put myself in the other person’s shoes. If someone fails to deliver on their word, I do not jump to conclusions. I consider possibilities. Maybe something happened. Maybe they are going through something I cannot see.

Help people without expecting anything in return.

I have helped many people. I have also received help from unexpected places.

Karma is practical.

Kindness compounds.

Patience

Business requires patience.

With your customers.
With your partners.
With profitability.

I have managed online gaming businesses. I have run Micserah at a loss for over a year before people started paying attention.

You must be willing to eat dirt.

To be misunderstood.
To be laughed at.
To be judged.
To be doubted.

If you believe in yourself and your direction, and you understand that life is long, patience will protect you.

I remember what people said about me between 2009 and 2013. I knew who I was. I stayed patient. I worked relentlessly.

It is painful before it becomes amazing.
