Building a personal Brand part 1

Personal Brand Is Everything

I am humbled and deeply appreciative of the opportunity to speak at the SIGMA Conference, one of the biggest gaming conferences in Europe.

This marks the third major conference I have spoken at this year.

I will not lie, it wraps up what has been both a difficult and exciting year for me. And the year is not even over yet.

More importantly, I hope that in one way or another, my journey inspires young people not to be afraid to leave "good" for "better." And never to compromise on their life goals or dreams.

The Foundation of My Journey

If you have followed me for a while, you know I often speak about hard work, persistence, humility, and self-awareness.

These principles have helped me build a strong personal brand within the Nigerian gaming industry.

What truly helped me get here is simple.

I am aware of my strengths.
I am aware of my vulnerabilities.

I do not hide from my weaknesses. I embrace them, work on them, and keep moving forward regardless of setbacks.

That mindset compounds.

What Nigeria Does Not Talk About Enough

One topic we rarely discuss seriously is personal brand.

Your personal brand is your reputation.

And your reputation, in perpetuity, is the foundation of your career.

It does not matter who you are.
It does not matter what you do.
It does not even matter if you are still a student.

You must build a personal brand.

But do not be deceived.

Personal branding is a long-term strategy.

The Long Game Always Wins

Many people struggle with playing the long game.

They see others getting ahead quickly, sometimes through shortcuts or questionable means, and they feel pressure to catch up.

But what they fail to see is this:

Short-term wins without reputation are fragile.

When you compromise your integrity for quick gains, you sacrifice the only thing that sustains you long term.

Reputation.

I see it every day. People are trying to convert customers immediately. Extracting value instead of creating experience. Pushing aggressively on Facebook, Instagram, and increasingly on LinkedIn.

That is not branding. That is desperation.

What is a Personal Brand?

Personal brand is how people feel when they interact with you.

We all have emotional reactions to names like Coca-Cola, Dangote, or GTBank.

Whether positive or negative, there is a reaction.

When you hear my name, I hope it triggers a positive feeling.

Maybe something like:

"Adekunle Adeniji, the guy who gave more than he asked."

That is intentional.

The best companies in the world do not focus on selling. They focus on branding.

Apple does not aggressively try to convert you into buying an iPhone. They sell the experience. The aspiration. The feeling.

Sales happen as a byproduct.

I approach my career the same way.

This does not mean you should never sell. It means you should understand that personal branding is disproportionately valuable and often ignored.

Final Thoughts

Build your name carefully.

Protect your reputation.

Play the long game.

It always pays.

In my next article, I will share practical insights on how to begin building your personal brand.

Wishing you growth, clarity, and long-term success.
